My neice has a 67 Coronet 440 with the 318, 2bbl. She will be heading to college in a year and I want to go through the trans and needed engine repairs/unpgrades to make it as trouble-free for her as possible. Here's some background on the car... It has 70,000 miles, auto trans with steering and air. The kick-down rod for the trans, came loose and has allowed the trans to slip badly. It leaks as well, so it's a given that I will be going through it to get it back to 100%. The 318 is a little more of a dilemma. When hot, it idles at 20 psi oil pressure and easily rises to 40 psi when driving. So, internally, things sound and appear from oil pressure to be good. Here are the following things I will be doing to the engine regardless. New oil pan gaskets Cleaning the oil pump pick-up screen Valve cover gaskets Intake gaskets Timing chain Lifters Petronix ign. The engine fires right up, doesn't smoke, or miss. Yet, since having the engine out of the car, I almost feel it's important to change over to the hardened seat heads. So, my big expense right now will be the heads. What year did Chrysler start to use the hardened seats in the 318? Secondly, is there a cylinder head that would give us better fuel economy? Thanks for your help and suggestions. Tim
